Caveman Clash
Abstract:
Cavemen defend their cave village by battling other cavemen and attacking animals. An asteroid has fallen from the sky and left shiny bits of metal on the ground. Cavemen collect these bits of asteroid to earn points. Cavemen also earn points by harvesting/ eating food. With points, cavemen can upgrade their weapons to battle other cavemen and attacking animals. Some animals, once dead, provide points.
Scene:
Cave is central and cavemen come out of the cave to do battle and collect points. Cavemen initially travel in groups of 3. Cavemen are manipulated around the screen to collect bits of asteroid that is visible on the ground. Some plants appropriate to each setting and level are visible and, by running into them, the caveman is able to collect points. Not all plants provide points and are aesthetic. These plants may even do damage to the cavemen if hit repeatedly. Plants do not disappear and the caveman can return to collect additional points as needed.

Levels
Level 1: Sonoran Desert
The cave is set in the Sonoran Desert. Visible plants include Saguaro cactus, tumbleweeds, and Mesquite trees. 3 groups of cavemen exit the cave. Each group of cavemen has 3 cavemen standing back to back so as to cover all directions. Thus a total of 9 cavemen are provided at the start of the game. Each caveman has a life. In a battle, one, two or all three of the cavemen in a triad can be killed depending on the relative strength of the enemy.
Player cavemen exit the cave and begin to collect asteroid bits and points from the ground, plants and as they drop from the sky. Player cavemen start with unlimited access to rocks as weapons. Opposing villages appear in the distance. Each village also has 3 groups of 3 cavemen. In this level, the player cavemen battle cavemen from opposing villages and animals, collecting points from each animal they kill. This level is about introducing the player to the game, basic key commands, strategies and collecting points.
An alien space ship flies overhead and drops asteroid bits for the player caveman to collect. Some bits stick to the cactus plants.
Cavemen travel in groups of 3. This triad can attack in any direction, but in only one direction at a time. In order to launch an attack, the player selects the cavemen triad to attack, and drags it into the enemy. The outcome of the battle is determined by the strength of the cavemen triad, the weapons selected for use, and the strength of the enemy under attack.
Level 2: Sonoran Desert
Before exiting the cave, the player caveman buys additional weapons and/or additional cavemen triads to build their forces and fortify their village. Additional buildings are supplied as follows; a watering hole and and additional cave with 9 cavemen ( 3 groups of 3). Each level from here out will have a water feature to provide life in some way. In this level, the cavemen need to go into (but not across) the water to be rejuvenated. However, this is also true for the enemy cavemen and animals. They can also be rejuvenated by the watering hole. As such, this needs to be protected.
Introduce: Gila Monster, and watering hole. If animals and opposing cavemen reach the watering hole, they are refreshed and attack with greater force. The watering hole has to be protected. Scorpions, snakes and Gila monsters are able to swim across the watering hole, but the cavemen (player caveman and opposing forces) cannot and must walk around.
The alien space ship flies across the scene dropping both asteroid bits (points!) and rocks (danger!) The cavemen groups must identify which and respond accordingly, collecting the asteroid bits if possible and avoiding the rocks as these will cause damage to the cavemen. In this level, the rocks will not damage the structures. Friendly aliens appear in the windows of the space ship and wave at the cavemen.
Level 3: Sierra Mountainside
Caveman villages are still recognizable as caves, but they have a mountain village aesthetic. Included in this level is a lake. The village is increased by a dedicated farm and an additional cave with 9 cavemen (3 groups of 3). From this level on, all structures can be damaged.
Before beginning, the player caveman buys additional weapons to use in this level. Weapons available include the slingshot. Also available for purchase in this level is the Fishing Rod. With the Fishing Rod, the player caveman is able to catch the Rainbow Trout for points as they leap from the lake. New plants include the Ponderosa Pine, Ferns, Blackberry Bushes, and Foxglove. New animals include the Black Bear, Rainbow Trout, Yellowjackets, Skunk, Squirrels and Mountain Lions. As a twist in this level, a plant, Foxglove, is poisonous and an animal, the Rainbow Trout, is potential points.
The alien space ship arrives and aliens can be seen in the cockpit. However, now cavemen are hanging on the outside edge and are throwing rocks down on the village and player cavemen. Player cavemen can defend themselves and their structures by shooting slingshots.
- Notes:
The alien space ship provides continuity and transition from the desert levels and the mountain levels.
Level 4: Sierra Mountainside
In this level, a stream of RV campers drive past the opening to the cave and park around the screen. Player Caveman must run through the RV's to safety when exiting the cave. The RV campers continue to drive past the opening to the cave, effectively blocking any safe retreat into the cave. Each RV has a person or family that leaves the RV and has to be battled.
Level 5: Beachfront Pacific Ocean
Level 6: Beachfront Pacific Ocean
Level 7: Alaskan Wilderness
The lake is frozen in this level and fish can be caught by cutting a hole in the lake and fishing through the ice. Animals and cavemen that attempt to cross the lake slide across and end up in random places.
The farm is partially covered by a greenhouse. The greenhouse can be damaged by falling rocks that tear holes in the canvas covering, which can lead to crop failure. Also, the frozen turkey appears in this level. Frozen turkeys can be thrown as a weapon when frozen and eaten when thawed. Frozen turkeys can be eaten by both sides, so throwing the frozen turkey, while can cause damage, can also provide food for the enemy.
